Acts 16:6-10 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

Here we find Paul preaching on his second missionary journey. I find it very interesting that Paul desired to preach the Word in Asia as well as Bithynia but the Spirit would not let him. Paul didn’t give up; in fact I don’t even think he slowed down. He continued going in the direction that the Lord led him (or was leading him before he, Paul, tried to do something else) until he couldn’t go any further. If you’ll study a map of this journey Paul journeyed West, the direction the Lord was leading, as far as he could THEN the Lord revealed to him what to do next. Verse ten has a very interesting phrase in it, “assuredly gathering”; this phrase means that given all the circumstances and evidence before him, Paul “gathered” that “assuredly” the Lord was calling him to Macedonia. What? Yes, he was absolutely sure…that he thought so! Child of God don’t fret if it seems that all your plans are crumbling down around you, God has a Macedonia for you too!

Praise the Lord! He’s so good to us. I’m sorry that I’ve neglected the site over the summer but we have been very busy. We started school on September 13 (we are officially sophomores) and it has been truly refreshing although it certainly makes our lives more hectic. This year is the largest enrollment for the college ever. We have to rush to school just to get our seat! I’m looking forward to what God is going to do this year and in the years to come with the students of VBC.

As I mentioned last time I wrote we are pastoring in Dallas, NC. We drive up (2.5 hrs one way) every weekend and try to preach to and pastor the wonderful people at Maranatha Baptist. I don’t know if it will be God’s will for us to be there for the rest of our lives but it certainly seems that is what He would have us to do for now. We learned many things last semester but one of the things the Lord taught us is this…if we’ll follow Him everyday (don’t worry about tomorrow, next week, next month or next year) then He will lead us and we can’t help but to end up directly in the middle of His will! Ain’t that good news?!? So many times in this walk of faith we try to figure out what God wants us to do for the rest of our lives but He’s just wanting us to walk with Him, talk with Him and trust Him today…He’ll take care of getting us where He wants us to be. Well, I’ve just preached you a couple messages and you thought you were reading an update! God has been good to us, He’s kept us safe, provided for our needs and blessed us more than we could have imagined. We began a new ministry on August 1 at Maranatha called the Care Ministry. Since then God has given us 26 First Time Attendees, of which, an average of 14 are coming back every Sunday. Of these, three have been saved and one re-dedicated his life! Five hours in a car isn’t too bad for an investment like that!

Romans 15:30-33 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints; That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

Here we find Paul writing to the church at Rome. He speaks of the saints praying for him to be delivered from those who oppose his work but then he states that he desires to go to the brethren and “be refreshed.” Friend, how many times have we been refreshed by a word of encouragement or a kind word from a brother or sister? We thank God for those saints that He has put in our lives that have given us that help we needed right on time. This month it may well be that someone is about to give up and throw in the towel, your kind words and encouragement may be what keeps them from forfeiting what God has in store for them.

Since the last time we wrote we’ve finished our first year of school and got out grades back. Yes, by God’s amazing grace, Kelly & I both did great. Thank you for your prayers. We had a wonderful time of Revival in the annual camp meeting. Friday night was probably one of the best services I’ve ever had the privilege to be in. My soul how the Lord blessed us!

We’ve had the privilege to preach in several churches this past month. On May 19 I was blessed to preach in my first revival at Maranatha Baptist in Aiken, SC. I preached the final night after several other VBC preachers preached that week. May 30 I preached in the evening service with Derek Anglin at Trinity Baptist in Hinesville, GA and Kelly sang in both services. (I’ll have to tell you about this trip later, but suffice to say…I went for a vacation and got an illustration!!!) On June 13 I taught the singles SS and preached in the evening service at Temple Baptist Church in Cullman, AL. That was the first time I ever preached outside of the Eastern Time zone. I preached with Derek Anglin, Scott Campbell and Justin Galloway. We had a great time in Alabama. Tonight I will be preaching in my second revival. I’ll be preaching the final night of revival at Story Mill Road Baptist Church in Hephzibah, GA. So much for a summer break! Did I mention that I am pastoring now as well? Yep, I’ve been filling in as pastor at Maranatha Baptist Church in Dallas, NC. I will be there at least until the end of the summer and we’ll see what the Lord would have us to do. Please pray for us as we drive 5 hours each weekend. Also pray for Kelly, she just started teaching a ladies class at Maranatha and it’s going great. One more thing, please pray for Maranatha, we’re trusting the Lord to do great things there. We’ll be starting several new ministries and outreaches this summer and we’re looking for God to bless.

My how God will use your life when you yield to Him. We don’t (at least I don’t Kelly probably does) deserve to be used by Him. I’m so glad that God will use a person like me. I’m excited about what God is going to do with us tomorrow, next week, next month and next year.

Where The Glory comes Out!

Psalm 24:10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

The book of Psalms contains some of the most quoted verses in the Bible. Here we find the psalmist asking a question. The answer to the question is found in the chapters that precede it. In Psalm 22 We see a Suffering Savior. In Psalm 23 we see a Serving Savior. But, in Psalm 24 we see a Splendid Savior! The psalmist comes to the end of Psalm 24 and pronounces that the King of glory is indeed the LORD of hosts then he says…Selah. That word literally means to pause. Brother Maze defined it like this…when you see the word Selah the writer is saying pause and think about that or…how 'bout them apples?!?

It’s camp meeting time at Victory! We are in the middle of the 29th annual homecoming and 16th annual camp meeting at Victory Baptist Church. We’ve heard some of the best preaching and singing this side of Heaven and there are still two more nights to go! Dr. Craig Edwards preached Monday thru Wednesday, Dr. Ed McAbee from Gaffney, SC will be with us tonight and Friday we’ll get to enjoy the preaching of Dr. Joe Arthur.

This month we were able to preach several times at Maranatha Baptist in Dallas, NC and I was also blessed to preach in California, Texas, New York, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Africa, Europe, India, China & Japan!!! Yes, our first month of broadcasting the "Voices of Victory" has been a lot of work, but my soul, what a blessing! We have a few meetings lined up in May and June that I’ll let you know about in next month’s letter. Until then, please pray for us as we have been very busy this month trying to get everything finished up and studied up for finals on May 10! Please pray for us to do well on our finals. Can you believe that we’re already finished with our first year?!? We are looking forward to the break over the summer but we also are anticipating what great things God has for us next school year too.

Finally, I want to say thank you to each and every one of you that pray for us and encourage us with your phone calls and emails. It’s so good to know that we have friends and family that love us and are supporting us. I don’t know what the future holds for us but I can tell you this; for every person that God gives us the opportunity to help YOU will receive a blessing because you have helped us along the way! Now that’s good news. You may never be a Billy Sunday, Charles Spurgeon, Charles Finney, D.L. Moody or Jonathan Edwards but friend; you may well be the next Edward Kimball that touches the life of a D.L. Moody. You never know whose life your life will touch and whose life their life will touch.

Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

To God Be The Glory,
Great Things He Hath Done!

Ezekiel 34:26 And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.

Here we find the Lord speaking to the sheep of Israel or in other words the children of God.  I like the phrase "I will" found here, that speaks of God's Power.  Next we see the word "them", that speaks of God's People.  I am so glad I'm one of His!  Finally we see the phrase "my hill", which speaks of God's Place.  When we as God's People get in God's Place we will see God's Power!  Now that's good preaching even if I am typing it!?!?!

The old adage goes "April showers bring May flowers", that may well be true but I'd like to submit to you that "April showers show God's power"!!!  Now I'm not just talking about nature, I'm speaking of His mighty hand at work in our lives.  During the month of March we were blessed with many opportunities to share God's Word in music and message (Kelly handles the music while I try to take care of the message!)  We were at Maranatha Baptist in Dallas, NC several Sundays this month.  We were also privileged to preach at New Testament Baptist in Ellenwood, GA (just outside Atlanta) with a group from the college on March 17.  The church took up an offering for us that fed 12 hungry college students at Sonny's BBQ and still had a generous offering to give to the college!  We also had the opportunity to preach at Garden City Rescue Mission in Augusta on March 24 with a group from our SS class, Coupled with Christ. I also celebrated my birthday a few days ago...I'm 15 years old now! Fifteen in the Lord, that is. He just gets sweeter and sweeter as the days go by. We have now been 'sand lappers' for one year! I cannot believe how fast time goes by. The campmeeting will be here in less than a month, and we'll officially be Sophomores. We'll be graduating before you know it!

I am so excited about our future.  This month God has allowed us to begin a radio ministry with two other college preachers, Derek Anglin and Brent Carr.  The program is called "Voices of Victory"; it is an outreach ministry of the college.  As such, it will feature college preachers as well as chapel preachers along with Dr. Hurte and Dr. Brown.  We will also feature many of the talented singing groups at Victory and give important announcements and ministry updates.  The program will air each Friday at 9:30am EST on AM 1560 in Dobson, NC and world-wide over the internet at www.wyzd.org.

Finally, God has also blessed me with the awesome responsibility of being the editor of the college newsletter.  "The Victory Encourager" is a monthly periodical along the lines of "Revival Fires", "The Baptist Vision" and "The Sword of the Lord".  "The Victory Encourager" is published by Victory Baptist College for pastors and students. If you'd like to receive "The Victory Encourager" contact the church office at 803-278-2138 or www.victorybc.com.

p.s. We got our grades back from our mid-terms and we both (by God's AMAZING Grace) did great.

p.s.s. Where's the 'important announcement' you ask? It's the last sentence...the mid-term grades...and what were you thinking?!?!? Gotcha!!!

Hebrews 11:24-25 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

We find this month's text in "The Hall of Faith." Moses had a decision to make, would he go along with the ways of the Egyptians and the things of the world or would he go with God?  Of course, we know he forsook the things of the world and went God's way; friend aren't you glad for that day when you said NO to sin, NO to satan, NO to the world and YES to the Savior!!!  Sure, you may have given up a little pleasure for a season, but one of these days we're going to a land where there is no time.  Why, over yonder there are no seasons, no more rain, no cloudy days, no ice storms, no snow storms, no hail storms, there will not even be a sun in the sky because the SON is the light over there.  There will be no more sickness, no more death, no more pain, no more rest homes, no more hospitals, no more funeral homes.  Over yonder there will be no more 40 hour work weeks, no more power bills, no more phone bills, no more credit card bills, no more car payments and Thank God Hallelujah, no more house payments!!!  In fact, I'm moving into a brand new mansion that I'll never have to vacuum, dust or clean and the best part is it's already paid for and waiting for me! I'm going to a supper where I'll sit at a table that stretches from sky to sky, eat food prepared in Heaven's kitchen, it has no fat, no calories or carbs. I'll eat off the finest plates, drink new wine out of crystal clear goblets, wipe my mouth with the finest linens and will not have to worry about washing the dishes or paying the check...it's been paid for! But that's not the best part, I'm going to a supper where the Lord himself, Jesus Christ, will gird himself and serve the children of God. Then, when all that's over, I'll go to a meeting that was conceived in the heart of God, orchestrated by the Holy Ghost and paid for by Jesus' precious blood. The heavenly choir has been practicing singing Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty for thousands of years but they'll have to bow their heads when The Redeemed march in and begin to sing that new song...maybe it'll go something like this, "He came to me, He came to me, when I could not come to where He was He came to me!" HAL...LA...LU...YER!!! Bless His Holy name, ain't you glad He came to you!

Since the last time we wrote, we've been cold, hungry and homeless!!!  Just Kidding, during the last week of January we had an ice storm that knocked our power out for 5 days!!!  But, Praise the Lord, we were able to stay with Scott & Heather Campbell.  It was actually kind of fun, like a campout!?!?!  I sure am thankful for good friends.  We have been blessed with the opportunity to preach at Maranatha Baptist Church in Dallas, NC on several occasions and be a blessing to them.  I am looking forward to seeing where God will use us next.  We will be taking Mid-Terms next week.  Can you believe that our freshman year is almost over?  They always said, "Time flies when you're having fun."  I've said this before, but it bears repeating; there is no better place to be than in the middle of God's will.  I am SO glad we followed God's leadership, picked up and moved to the BEST Bible College in the world!!!

To God Be The Glory,

Great Things He Hath Done!

1 Samuel 7:12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

In this text we find that Israel has just defeated the Philistines by the power of God.  Samuel sets up a stone of remembrance or a testimony telling the world that up until this point God has been faithful and helped us.  As Kenny Townsend put it in Chapel the other week, I don't know what tomorrow holds but I do know about yesterday and it's been God all the way.

Well, we had a great holiday season and time of rest during the holidays but it's time to get back to our busy schedule.  Spring semester began January 12 and we are so excited about the subjects we'll be studying and about what God is going to do in our lives this year.

On December 7, 2003 we were privileged to preach at Maranatha Baptist Church in Aiken, SC during the evening service along with Brother CT Townsend.  We were also blessed to share the Word of God in our Sunday School class, "Coupled for Christ", on December 14, 2003.  We were blessed to be with Derek Anglin, Brent Carr, Joey Wampler and Chris Carr at the Glory Baptist Church New Year's Jubilee on December 31, 2003 in Buffalo, SC.  The church was such a blessing to us by providing us a room at a fine hotel, I felt like a "flaming evangelist"!!!  On January 11, 2004 we began a rest home ministry with Scott Campbell and his family at the NHC rest home in North Augusta, SC.  What a blessing it was to see those patients faces glow when we sang the praises of God and preached the promises of God.  We thank God for the open doors He has provided and I can hardly wait to see where God will use us next!!!

Think about this, In Mark chapter five, the disciples get off the ship on the other side (where Jesus told them they were going) and run into the maniac.  I can't say for sure but I'm just persuaded that the one of the disciples may have looked at that man and said, "Sir, you look like a hard case, there's a possibility that He can't help you, I'm not 100% sure what He can do on land but He works miracles on the water!"  Hallelujah!!!  Remember, when the waves are above your head they are still under His feet!

Because God Will,

Chris & Kelly
